WORK EXPERIENCE:
Kentucky Folklife Program

Listed here are examples of the work that I have done during my time as the graduate assistant for the Kentucky Folklife Program.

DRESS TO EXPRESS

During the Spring of 2018, I co-taught a class to high school students called Dress to Express.  This class, led in partnership with Becca Smith, Dr. Tim Evans, and Virginia Siegel, explored how dress and adornment are modes of self-expression, and indicators of group and personal identity.  I led one of classes, drawing on my past experience as a vintage clothing dealer to discuss how clothing trends are recycled over time, and to discuss strategies for dating clothing.

A CULTURE CARRIED: BOSNIANS IN BOWLING GREEN

During the Summer of 2017, I worked as the Exhibit Assistant for the Kentucky Folklife Program.  In this role, I assisted in the production of the National Endowment for the Arts-funded museum exhibit, A Culture Carried: Bosnians in Bowling Green, an exhibit which explores the history and culture of the city's Bosnian community.  I co-wrote exhibit text, provided photographic documentation, and conducted oral history interviews with members of Bowling Green's Bosnian community.

I also developed a digital version of the exhibit. The site features additional content, including excerpts from oral history interviews, photos, and video.  This digital version will live on once the physical exhibit at the Kentucky Museum closes.  It was designed so that KFP can continue updating it as they continue fieldwork for the Bowling Green Bosnia Oral History Project.

Additionally, I helped organize, promote, and produce various public programs which highlighted different aspects of Bosnian culture.

GRANT WRITING

During the Summer of 2017, I co-wrote a National Endowment for the Arts "Art Works" grant, proposing to establish a Kentucky Folklife Network and create a digital Kentucky Folklife Magazine.  The Kentucky Folklife Program was awarded the grant in the Winter of 2018, and I will work as a contractor for KFP during the 2018-2019 academic calendar to help complete the grant project.

LOG CABIN BLUEGRASS JAM

During 2016-2017 academic school year, I coordinated, promoted, and hosted a monthly bluegrass jam at the Kentucky Folklife Program's Pioneer Log Cabin.
